WRAP ME

ART INSTALLATION

The installation is designed as a room-sized chamber, with walls, floor, and ceiling entirely covered in transparent plastic wrap. Visitors enter through a plastic curtain, immersing themselves in an environment where every surface is encased in the same material used to protect and preserve valuable sneakers in stores.

Inside the chamber, sneakers of various brands, styles, and ages are meticulously arranged in rows and stacks, The sneakers are positioned in such a way that they seem to fill every inch of available space, creating a visually overwhelming experience.

The lighting in the room is dim, casting shadows and reflections off the plastic surfaces, enhancing the surreal atmosphere. Soft, ambient music plays in the background, adding to the sensory immersion.

As visitors navigate the space, they are invited to contemplate the significance of the plastic wrapping. Is it a symbol of protection, safeguarding the sneakers from damage and decay? Or does it represent a barrier, isolating the sneakers from the world and obscuring their true value?

The installation prompts questions about the nature of value itself. Are the sneakers valuable because of their design, craftsmanship, and cultural significance? Or is their value artificially inflated by the scarcity created through methods like limited releases and exclusive collaborations?

By enveloping the sneakers in plastic, the installation also draws attention to the environmental impact of consumerism and disposable culture. The plastic wrap, typically used for short-term preservation, becomes a metaphor for the broader issues of waste and sustainability.

Ultimately, the installation invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship with material possessions, consumption, and the ephemeral nature of value in a world driven by trends and commercial interests.
